Professional Development Opportunities

The Office of Distance Learning can help prepare you to use educational technology tools and instructional methods to make you a successful online educator. Explore the various options below and contact distancelearning@louisiana.edu to register. Don’t see what you’re looking for? Let us know and we can develop training to meet your needs.

  • Course Design Practicum: At the end of this 10-week course, you will have created an online course in Moodle and be an ULearn Certified Course Designer. This course is one that is sure to help you prepare a course for hybrid or online delivery. A UL Lafayette Distance Learning staff member instructs this course.
  • Moodle Training: Click here for a list of all Moodle trainings. In addition to the 45-minute introduction, the Offices of Distance Learning and Moodle Support have designed 30-minute “how tos” workshops. These hands-on workshops are repeated throughout the year, so there is sure to be a time and date that works for you.
  • Sloan-Consortium Online Workshops: UL Lafayette is a member of the Sloan-Consortium, an international organization dedicated to online learning. As a member, our faculty and staff have access to dozens of online workshops covering nearly every aspect of online learning (from teaching to course design). If you would like to schedule a workshop, review the workshops options from the link above and contact Distance Learning.
  • Quality Matters: UL Lafayette’s ULearn Course Certification process is based on the Quality Matters rubric. Online faculty, course designers, and course peer reviewers must complete Quality Matters training to participate in the UL internal review process. If you click on the Quality Matters link above, you will be prompted to log in and upon doing so will be taken to the QM help page.
  • Pick & Choose: The Pick and Choose Training option allows you and your department / colleagues to receive customized training delivered at your convenience on topics you want to know about. These sessions are completely customizable by topic, duration, location, and delivery method for small groups or entire departments.
